Sundae
Spoken for
Sundae was reserved as she was being considered for our family. She reminds us very much of our beloved Chantilly, who you can read about here. She has a small umbilical hernia and we were watching to see if it resolved on it's own.
It hasn't resolved to date and therefore we could not consider her a breeding prospect. We are offering her at a lower price because she may need to have the hernia repaired (a very minor procedure) at the time she is spayed if it does not resolve by that time.
Because we were heavily considering both Sundae and Mousse as the puppy to add to our family, we did Embark DNA testing on them both. Both were clear for all 7 breed relevant and all 267 diseases Embark tests for. Sundae's new family will receive her complete Embark report at no extra charge.
Now that we have chosen Mousse, we have reluctantly made the beautiful Sundae available. She will be an amazing family member for the right family.
Sundae is a big dark brown girl. She was tied with Mousse for the largest at birth, but has grown the fastest and is now clearly the biggest puppy in the litter. She is clearly the most dominate puppy, and can take all of her siblings down with ease. She's also the most independent puppy in the litter. She chooses to sleep alone more often than the other puppies who are more likely to sleep in a group. She's very smart and was the first puppy to learn to use the doggy door (in less than a minute) with no trace of fear.
Sundae's Aptitude Testing results corresponded with our ongoing observations. She is a higher energy puppy who is very confident and is the most independent puppy in the litter. As the largest puppy in the litter, it didn't take long for her to dominate her litter mates, but she generally is very matter of fact about it and not overly aggressive as some dominate puppies are. She is very playful and loves balls and toys. Her aptitude testing showed a very high level of interest/aptitude for retrieving. She also has a high level of food motivation. She is very quick to learn new things. She is house broken, leash trained and is learning puppy puzzles.
During the testing, she was very friendly with the tester and accepted being dominated by the tester easily. She focused on her and even looked at her as she was chasing an object like she was inviting her to play. She cuddled up to the tester in a test that showed a forgiving nature. She showed no fear of noise or strange objects during the testing and her calm personality is evident in our daily observations as well.
We believe Sundae will do best in a home with a family who is experienced with dogs and training and will take advantage of her intelligence and interested in learning and retrieving with opportunities such as agility, retrieving activities or even hunting. Sundae is rather unique as a standard poodle with her independent nature. Our beloved Chantilly acted just like her as a puppy and became a dream poodle for us. Even as a very tiny puppy, Sundae has not competed to sit on our laps like many of the puppies do, but is content to lay next to us or nearby. She is affectionate but not needy or anxious. She is expected to do well as an only dog in a family or with other dogs as companions. She will thrive with an active family who wants to play with her, take her on outings etc. She also happily enjoys time just hanging out with us and has already learned to watch TV!
Sundae's Conformation Testing was very good overall. She has the longest and most beautiful ears and a gorgeous face. She carries her natural tail over her back and off to one side most of the time - technically a flaw if she were a show dog, but we think it's just adorable. She has always been the largest puppy in the litter and has grown quickly. We expect her to be a little larger than Jubilee.
We began Early Neurological stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) on Day 3. You can see a photo in the gallery of Sundae sniffing an apple and grass. She showed the most interest in those as compared to the other pups. She loved grass so much she tried to eat it, in spite of having no teeth and not having her eyes and ears open yet! Other scents she particularly enjoyed are pansy, moss, clover, and a chicken feather.
Both ENS and ESI are believed to enhance brain development and general health in puppies and we are working hard to do all that we can do to give them the perfect start in life.
